The objective of this exercise is to provide students with the opportunity to
document, review, and plan their progress towards completing the Final Paper
This assignment should be 3 pages long. 1 to 1 ½ pages devoted to a progress
narrative and a third page for a bibliography. 500 word minimum, 750 word
maximum for the 1 ½ page narrative.
Page formatting instructions: Times New Roman, 12pt., single-spacing using APA
formatting for in-text and bibliography citations.
Progress narrative should consist of only 2-paragraphs. Each paragraph must
contain at least 10 sentences.
The first paragraph should discuss the student’s progress this term towards
completing the Final Paper assignment. Be sure to indicate how each step relates
to your topic and/or your progress and experiences. Comments should NOT be
just a list of citations. Students are encouraged to discuss various topics
including how they found sources, thoughts they have towards bringing the
outside sources they have discovered into conversation with class materials, the
method you used to organize your work, etc. – activities and planning completed
so far during the term to do their independent research. All the issues listed here
do not have to be covered due to the short length of the paper. Pick topics that
most relate to your work. One or two sentences in this paragraph can be

approach moving forward – answer the question, what steps will be taken to

The Project Progress Reports that follow formatting guidelines and display the
ability to employ critical thinking will receive the highest grades.
Students should select only one of the research ISSUES below with the goal to create a
Final Paper which will consist of a narrative and bibliography.
Research ISSUE 1: Regarding artificial intelligence (AI), discuss the application of AI
applications as these are employed by medical practitioners, NGOs, and grassroots
activists to combat a global increase in mental illness.
Research ISSUE 2: Discuss the historical events, economic, political, and cultural
characteristics that influence food insecurity and the dynamic of human migration.
Research ISSUE 3: Discuss an area of great concern for global studies researchers; the
intersection of global slavery and migration as these relate to the use of digital forms of
This Final Paper assignment is an activity in which the student should address the
selected Research Question by reviewing several sources to tell a complete story.
Papers that provide a valid case study to add depth to their narrative will receive the
highest consideration.
It is important that the work be holistic. For example, one source may explore the
history and the focus of another source may be the economics. Papers that will receive
high grades will be those that are a compilation of citations that address the issue from
all of the four perspectives that are important to Global Studies researchers: History,
political, economic, and cultural issues.
The objective is to create a discussion in the form of the final paper about one of the
research ISSUEs. The final paper is an unbiased narrative that summarizes facts that
students discovered by doing the annotated bibliography, class work, and their
independent literary search of at least 5 (five) contemporary academic resources.
Papers that integrate terms and class materials with discovered facts from your
literature research will receive the highest grades.
Discovered Literature Standards
Only editorialized and peer-reviewed contemporary sources should be cited (printed or
digitized after 2010 until 2020). Academic publications are preferred, and the list may
include – but not be dominated by literature/films from sources such as – NYT, PBS and Ted
Talks and films produced by NGOs, etc.
Times New Roman (12) with APA style in-text citations. A minimum of 10 citations is
required in the bibliography (APA style) and may include material assigned and/or
viewed in lecture and discussion.
Single-space the narrative and bibliography, the minimum page number of the
narrative is 3 pages, or 1500 words and the bibliography should be one page. The
maximum page number is 4.
