Dinosaurs and Flying Reptiles in the News

Respond needed for these two
1-For this week’s topic on Pterosaurs, I, as well as you all, will learn about the behemoth that ruled the skies over South America during the Late Cretaceous period. South America during the upper Cretaceous was a hotspot for gigantism in prehistoric animals. Argentinosaurus, Dreadnoughtus, Gigantsaurus, and Mapusaurus are all record holders for being one the largest sauropods and theropods in the world (Besides the Spinosaurus) that inhabit the most southern part of South America. As of 2022, a new giant of this continent can be added to the scene. They call Thanatosdrakon or Thanatos for short, which means « Dragon of death » in Greek, who is now known to be the largest flying creature to have ever inhabited South America; specifically Argentina. Thanatosdrakon belonged to a certain type of group of pterosaurs  known to have large specimens called Azhdarchidae, with their most notable member being the Quetzalcoatlus, the largest flying animal to have ever lived.
Though Thanatos was somewhat smaller than its famous cousin, it was still a terror in the sky to be reckoned with. Along with its large wingspan of 25-29 ft wide, Thanatos also had an immensely large skull; scientists suggested that with a head/ beak so large it most likely snatched small dinos, mammals, and fish to eat them whole. They most likely preyed upon young sauropod hatchlings which were very common in Argentina at the time. The only thing that could’ve possibly hunted them in upper Cretaceous Argentina were possibly the larger predators that could have captured Thanatos while resting on land like the Abelisaurus or Mapusaurus who roughly lived around the 80 million year timeframe as Thanatosdrakon.
2-Recently, a Triassic fossil that was found over 100 years ago was analyzed using high definition CT scans, and it was revealed to share many traits with saurians.  Scleromochlus taylori had long hind legs and shorter front legs that resembled the legs and feet of pterosaurs, along with anatomical structures in the jaw.  Scleromochlus was about 7 inches long and mostly tail, with incredibly delicate bones.  Removing the fossil from the rock may have destroyed it, so micro-CT scans were taken to reconstruct the entire thing.
With the ability to zoom in on anatomical features of Scleromochlus it was found that it looked more like flying reptiles that may have been related to pterosaur origins than pterosaurs themselves.  Ancestor species of pterosaurs have been very few and far between, and that’s on the scale of fossils in general, which are already hard to find, so this discovery is incredible.  I am amazed that it lasted from 1907, when it was excavated, to now without any damage.
